Chamber Executive Director
The Chamber Director is responsible for the daily operation of the Chamber Office and Visitors Center and the coordination of monthly chamber events. Provide support to the Board and chamber committees, attending all chamber sponsored functions. The Director reports to the Chamber Board, specifically to the President.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Membership Retention & Growth
a. Communicate with existing & new businesses to increase membership, hear business concerns, and encourage active participation in chamber events;
b. Establish a personal rapport with potential and current members through regular phone calls & visits;
c. Maintain updated list of current membership with necessary contact information;
d. Set goals for the board for acquiring new members and provide a monthly report to the board on the status of those activities;
e. Conduct an annual survey of members and report findings to the board.
2. Administrative and Finance
a. Manage the Chamber office, i.e., answer the telephone, greet visitors, provide visitor information, prepare and mail relocation packets.
b. Assist with the preparation of the annual budget; purchase all services and supplies necessary to operate the chamber within budgetary limits;
c. Develop an understanding of the chambers accounting system including the chart of accounts; Manages day to day finances including processing all AP/AR;
d. Monitor member dues receivable; follow approved procedures to encourage payment of annual dues;
e. Prepare agendas, appropriate financial reports and other attachments for the monthly board meeting; Serves as the Secretary to the board;
f. Maintain a functional office with special emphasis on providing a professional business office environment;
g. Oversee the maintenance, repair and management of the chamber office;
h. Work with the board in identifying fundraising activities or sources of funds for the chamber;
i. Meet with the President on a weekly basis to set goals.
3. Event Coordination and Development
a. Coordinate and assist the board in the design and execution of projects and events to enhance the community and encourage trade, tourism and industry in the City of Cornelius and greater Cornelius;
b. Assist committee co-chairs with critical timelines; provide necessary and appropriate support; participate in all chamber sponsored events;
c. Coordinate ribbon cuttings, open houses, Business After Hours and other chamber events
d. Maintain and update program information for each of the chambers major events; make sure next year’s committee chairs have access to the information.
4. Community Liaison/Outreach
a. Develop and maintain beneficial relationships with community organizations, government agencies and other agencies as suggested by the board;
b. Schedule and/or attend meetings of various groups within the business community when such meetings may involve or affect the purpose and function of the chamber or projects related to the chamber; report involvement/developments to the board;
c. Attend conferences, seminars and other agency meetings approved by the board.
5. Public Relations & Marketing
a. Perform public relations duties and public speaking related to the chambers interest;
b. Assist with the gathering, writing, publishing and distribution of the weekly/monthly newsletter;
c. Assist with the maintenance of the chambers website and community calendar; distribute information through various means such as newsletter, blast emails, faxes, etc;
d. Issue press releases and letter to the local press, business clients and public officials;
e. Develop publications, brochures, member materials and promotional literature for the chamber; maintain current information
Knowledge/Skills:

Working Conditions:
- This is predominantly an office position and requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports and data and using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work related documents. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required.
